I've been threatening to do a marathon for the past few years. Here goes.Training through the dark Manc winter is grim but it is also a great pleasure to do something and something hard for someone else.
The Riff Raff Society are helping David. David is awaiting a kidney transplant and has fallen into financial (mortgage)trouble after David was left fighting for his life after contracting a rare killer bug from his pet dog's saliva.
David Money, 51, was in a coma for six weeks to fight the illness, which caused him double organ failure.
He was bandaged neck to toe after he suffered tennis-ball sized blisters all over his body after his dog slobbered on a small open cut. A completely freak happening through no fault of his own.
David was in hospital for five months battling the infection which saw his legs suffer injuries usually only seen in people who suffer 90 per cent burns. His kidneys have failed and now he is has Dialysis on a daily basis to stay alive ahead of a possible transplant. He can't have the transplant until the blisters heal. At present his foot is badly infected. On top of all this the former HGV driver has had to face the real possibility of having his property repossessed. David obviously can't work at present but on top of this the 24 hour care he has received from his partner has severely impacted her income too.
David and partner Julie applied for a grant as a lifeline to get back on solid financial ground as Davids health improves and his partner goes back to work. The Society put the family in touch with finance experts at Atherton & Associates who analyzed the families situation and agreed we could help and make a real difference to their lives. We have already made a mortgage payment for the family. It is now our intention to clear their arrears (Aprox £3k) and set a clear path back a normal standard of living for David and his partner.
Many thanks to anyone who sponsors me. I really appreciate it. I'm sure David and Julie do too.
