On July 12th myself, Dave Howgego and Julia Mellors are going to do the National 3 Peaks Challege, climbing the 3 highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon ... in just 24 hours including driving in between!! Pete Sheppard as well as climbing Ben Nevis with us has offered to drive.
I've been wanting to do this since completing the Yorkshire 3 Peak Challenge 2 years ago and would like to make it worthwhile by raising money for Brickmakers Wood in Ipswich, the same charity I recently ran The Rat Race for at Burghley back in May.
Haven Power where I work have chosen to support this fantastic local charity this year and through doing these challeges I'd like to support it as I believe its an amazing local charity.
Eden-Rose Coppice Trust Ltd in Sudbury, Suffolk was the first project of its kind in the UK to transform run down, town centre woodlands into free sanctuaries for people living with Cancer or terminal illnesses. Through their connections with oncology departments, they found that there was a need for extra facilities. Brickmakers Wood in Ipswich provides a free sanctuary for those suffering with terminal illnesses.
In addition to this, the intrinsically linked and important usage of the sanctuary is for young people, especially those with learning disabilities, serious illness or behavioural problems, who work with mentors or carers and develop the site for the palliative care visitors. This integrated approach improves outcomes for both groups.
Please sponsor us and we will do our very best to complete the challege in 24 hours ... although it may be some time before I'm able to walk properly again afterwards!!!!
