CHC Group colleagues are entering the Street Football Wales (SFW) Housing Association Cup on 5th September 2015 in Play Football, Newport in order to raise funds so that a team of homeless people can represent Wales at the inaugural Homeless World Cup tournament in Amsterdam, Holland later this year.
SFW, set up in 2004, has made several transitions over the last ten years from being run completely voluntarily, to being funded for one year, to not existing due to funding ending, to rising from the ashes and forming a constituted voluntary group, to signing a business partnership agreement with Gwalia (who are now hosts), to gaining lottery funding for three years, to now successfully registering as a charity (CIO)…..What all this means, in a nutshell is that SFW has grown from one league with 8 teams run voluntarily in Swansea to 4 leagues with 40+ teams, including volunteering, time banking and employment opportunities for participants.
SFW has responded to Wales needing a programme that offered social inclusion through sport. SFW participates at the annual Homeless World Cup tournament and at present they have no direct funding towards this so rely on fundraising, sponsorship and donations from business and members of the general public - please help them make a difference.
In 2013 they took part in the tournament with their Welsh Dragons (male) and their 1st ever Welsh Warriors (female) team and are hoping to attend with both teams in Amsterdam, Holland later this year.
