We as a family have been on a long journey over the past 3 years when Megan then age 7 suddenly became acutely unwell and subsequently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. At the time we felt our world had ended our happy go lucky life suddenly stopped. 3 years on and because of Megan's immense resilience and bravery we are in a completely different place and feel much more positive about the future for Megan and all the children like her who have developed this condition. Over the past 3 years we have worked hard to find out about the latest treatments and technology to improve Megans quality of life and we couldn't have done this with out the support of WISH CDG which have supported us all as a family to start living life to the full again. WISH CDG is a St.Helens charity ran solely by type 1 parents and relies purely on donations to keep going. The group supports all the family and this includes siblings who in effect become young carers, Abbie Megans 6 year old sister had to learn very quickly from the age of 3 how to help to keep her older sister healthy and alive, she took on this role without us asking or even wanting her to so but because she loves her sister unconditionally. Abbie is our eyes and ears alerting us when Megans not well, assisting in meal preparation, testing and preparing insulin injections and infusions. There isn't a day goes by where Keith and I are not blown away by Megan and Abbies bravery and acceptance of what our life as become. It is due to the support that WISH CDG gives to the whole family we are going to fund raise again by running the Newcastle Great North Run only this year we are going to do this as a family. Abbie and myself will run the Mini 1.5 K race, Megan will run the Junior 4K race and Keith will complete his 14th Half Marathon. The money raised will go towards supporting Children and their siblings in a fun way on how to manage this potentially life limiting condition. Please support us by donating via this page,
