The Independent Project is an EU funded project which hopes to help older carers (age 55+) become more confident when using technology such as computers and the internet. As a result Carers MK has developed a website, where all carers have a secure login and are able to communicate with us, at the centre, as well as the person that they care for. You can also book events and talk to other carers via our forum as well as some more practical uses like recording medicine administrated.
Why they need our serviceThe Independent Project is educational; its aim is that older carers will become more confident when using technology and will embrace the new portal we have created. Isolated and busy carers will now have a new means of getting in touch and having a face to face meeting with our support staff.
Plan and expected resultsWe expect that the carers who have signed up to the pilot scheme to experiment with the website and give us constructive feedback on how it can be improved. It probably won't make their day-to-day caring role easier but it is another form of communication open to them. Long term will hope to expand the option to all our carers.
