This October I will be running the London Marathon (gulp!). I gained a ballot place and therefore don’t ‘have’ to run for a charity or organisation. The problem is though that you want to do it for more than just yourself. I’ve lived in Chessington for the past 12 years, and always knew that if I got a place I would run for a charity local to us called Yorda Adventures. We’ve had friends work for them and have always 100% been behind what they do. Since then we have moved to Liverpool, and I thought about running for another charity up here, but it didn’t sit right. The charity I aim to raise money for doesn’t get much funding and therefore relies mostly on donations. I want them to know how important we think they are!

Yorda Adventures is a not-for-profit  community organisation that works with families in and around the borough of Kingston-upon-Thames. They pride themselves on providing engaging and stimulating play projects for children and young people with severe learning disabilities. Quite honestly, the work they do is incredible. They give families the peace of mind that their child or young person is loved, cared for and throughly thought of in every way. Something they maybe don’t feel, sadly, in many other places. They also offer vital respite to families who need support, to rest and recharge. My cousin David had severe cerebral palsy and spent much of his life not able to join in many things, as places were not accessible for him. I saw my Aunty and Uncle do everything they could to change this, but 35 years ago things were a lot different to now. He was the same age as me and died when he was 21. Being in and around Yorda with my own family and friends often made me wonder about how much he would have loved a place like Yorda Play House. He was so full of life, cheeky, into everything and loved nothing more than spending time with people of any age. Yorda Adventures are amazing, please help me to raise as much money as I can for them!
