The Poppy Project was set up in 2003 to provide high-quality support, advocacy and accommodation to trafficked women; that is, women who have been brought into the UK to be exploited in some way. This could include but is not limited to sexual exploitation, labour exploitation, forced illicit activities and organ harvesting.

Why they need our service

We are widely regarded as the U.K.'s leading anti-trafficking project due to our expert care which focuses on the specific needs of trafficked women. We empower and support women in rebuilding their lives through a range of services, all of which are based on the needs of our service users. As well as offering women shelter and protection through our safe houses, we also offer support with issues such as medical and dental care, housing, family tracing and many other services.

Plan and expected results

Over the years, the Poppy Project has responded to 1869 referrals and provided support and accommodation to 334 years. A further 449 women have received outreach support, meaning that they have received support outside of our accommodation service. The Poppy Project has supported 36 victims of trafficking to successfully convict 55 traffickers, resulting in custodial sentences totalling 361 years.
