The project involves restoring and developing an existing garden and introducing raised beds to grow vegetables, herbs, fruit and flowers. At present gardening groups are held on a Monday and Tuesday for Carers and on a Thursday with Swallow - an organisation which supports adults with a learning disability. We would like to extend the project to allow us to offer sessions to other vulnerable groups.
Why they need our serviceThe Potting Shed is a therapeutic gardening project based at Leigh House in Radstock. It is open to groups of people to come and help restore and develop the existing garden, helping to forge links with the wider community and to help people develop and learn new skills, enjoy the fresh air and exercise and to meet new people.
Plan and expected resultsWe would like the garden to be supported by its community, and have already linked up with students from Radstock college to help plan and build the garden. We are supported by volunteers and we are looking to build up a pool of volunteers/keen gardeners who can spare a couple of hours a week to pass on their knowledge to some younger members.
