I, along with 6 friends (Jamie, Mark, Andy, Mathew, Tom and Chris), are walking the Dales Way, which is 81 miles, in 3 days in order to raise money for Sunshine and Smiles.
This charity which is local to Leeds, is an amazing group which support children, like my son, who have Down Syndrome.
Down Syndrome is a condition which means that there are developmental delays in areas such as speech, learning and cognition, and physical mobility. This results in a great need for professional input from speech and language specialist, physio therapist etc. The current government have restricted this input and so 'local support groups' are becoming the main way that children and young people, like Luke, can access this professional help.
In addition, Sunshine and Smiles also run swimming, football and creative sessions which now enable children with Down Syndrome to achieve some amazing things.
The group also have access to the most up to date information for some of the current Government changes, and provide emotional support to families which can never be under estimated. This charity are amazing, provide fantastic support for Luke, and the more money that they raise the more children with Downs Syndrome will be able to do.
