On 25th June, this years Welsh Dragons & Warriors will be completing 2x sponsored Shuttle Runs on Swansea's infamous Constitution Hill to raise funds to enable themselves to participate in this years Homeless World Cup in Glasgow, Scotland.
There will also be ex-participants from previous tournaments also trying to complete the challenge in Fancy Dress.
We receive very little direct funding towards this so rely on fundraising, sponsorship and donations from business and members of the general public.
Please help us make a difference.
Personal Background:
In 2003 whilst working for The Big Issue Cymru, I was tasked with getting a team of homeless people together to represent Wales at the inaugural Homeless World Cup tournament. This was not only a life changing experience for the players – it was life changing for me too as I realised that Wales needed a programme that offered social inclusion through sport.
SFW has made several transitions over the last ten years from being run completely voluntarily, to not existing due to funding ending, to rising from the ashes and signing a business partnership agreement with Gwalia (who are now hosts), to now successfully registering as a charity (CIO)…..What all this means, in a nutshell is that SFW has grown from one league with 8 teams run voluntarily in Swansea to 4 leagues with 40+ teams, including volunteering, time banking and employment opportunities for participants.
