It's about time to spruce up my post-covid body while raising funds to spruce up St. Mary's Secret Garden. See what I did there?
While my participation won't be very heroic it surely will be entertaining and once the materials for then 9 spruce-up projects have been raised, some of my former work colleagues and friends will be joining me to deliver the work.
For those who don’t know it, St. Mary's Secret Garden is a beautiful and accessible community garden with a difference in Hackney, London, helping those in need to combat isolation, develop valuable employment skills, gain qualifications and contribute to a greener, healthier, happier community.
For over 25 years the garden has offered a safe space where people with support needs and the local community can get hands-on experience of gardening, gain a sense of inclusion and receive the benefits of horticulture and other ecotherapy activities.
Help me raise the funds to support various repair works in this important community garden while witness me getting demolished during my fitness routines and running of the half marathon (13.1 miles or 21.1km).
The Hackney Half Marathon will take place 21st of May and we are hoping to carry out the works w/c 22nd of June. Please support the cause with a donation and you are welcome to join us on the day of working in the garden.
Here is a video documenting an event I organised exactly 10 years ago which took place in that very same place involving a kizomba workshop, garden gnome carving, with opera singers and a London band performing.
