Having completed a couple of running challenges before, I wish I could say doing the Great West Run will be easy. However, for a start it's a horribly hilly 13-mile slog (particularly the last few miles), and secondly, an injury and a bout of Covid at the end of 2022 meant I couldn't run at all for over two months, so at the moment my ability to even complete a 5k has been severely compromised.

I was thinking I'd just stick to short, easy runs this year (and even those I'd have to build up to), but then along came the opportunity to do the Great West Run to raise funds for a brand new, Devon-based charity, the Life Chance Trust. The Trust support and empower young people aged 16-25 for whom significant childhood trauma has led to social, emotional, behavioural, or educational difficulties, by providing therapeutic support, mentoring, training, advice, advocacy and practical assistance so they can lead happy, healthy and safe adult lives. By furthering understanding of trauma, they aim to break the cycle for future generations.

It's a very worthy cause, so I'll be back out pounding the pavements, trying to ensure my knew problem doesn't return and (hopefully) getting myself back into shape to complete the most horrible run I've ever previously attempted! Fingers crossed I'll be able to finish the course and raise some money for Life Chance Trust!
