In August 2012 at the grand old age of 45 I suffered a heart attack, since then I have changed my lifestyle, my diet & most of all I've taken to exercise. I started to get bored of just going to the gym, I needed a new focus, a new challenge!!
Without thinking too much about it I announced "I'll do a Triathlon for charity" & signed up to take part in the Windsor Triathlon on 14th June 2015. Then I looked into it properly & realised what I'd let myself in for..
1.5km Swim in the River Thames
42km Bike ride
10km Run
The thought of swimming in the Thames fills me with dread as I'm really not a strong swimmer so I've employed the expertise of a local swimming coach.
I can't remember the last time I rode a bike so I went out, bought a bike & I train as much as I possibly can.
Then comes the running!! Well anyone can run, can't they...
I went out for my 1st run thinking this was going to be the "easy part" Oh dear how wrong I was.
I work as a long distance lorry driver, I leave home on Monday morning & don't get home until Friday evening.
All my training has to be done at weekends & I sometimes manage a run or 2 in the week. I train with my fitness coach Ryan on Saturday mornings then run in the afternoon, on Sunday mornings I'm in the pool with my swimming coach Kelly followed by a cycle ride in the afternoon, by the end of the weekend I can't wait to get back to work for a rest!!
I will finish this Triathlon, I'm not going to break any world records but I will give it my everything!
I will not let this charity down.
