The group will be open to women who have lived through the trauma of trafficking, the trauma of grief and separation from family and the trauma of being forced into sex work. The group will enable women who are coping with deep feelings of shame and grief to express those feelings, to share their experiences and to support one another. Women can gain self respect and confidence through the support and encouragement that are able to give each other.
Why they need our serviceThe group will enable women who are coping with deep feelings of shame and grief to express those feelings, to share their experiences and to support one another. Group therapy is a shared experience where people work together on their recovery. Women can gain self respect and confidence through the support and encouragement which they are able to offer to other members of the group. Many of the women Street Talk work with are struggling with suicidal feelings.
Plan and expected resultsIt is hoped that women taking part in the group will recover from trauma and will be inspired by one another to discover who they might have been had none of the bad things happened to them. We hope that women will take the first steps towards recovery together. This may involve trying to contact family from whom they have been estranged, getting out of an exploitative relationship, starting to study or just something as simple as feeling entitled to live in safety and with dignity.
