To reveal the course of canal by the clearance of trees, brash, scrub and grass from the bed and banks of the canal. Clearance of blackthorn and brash from the side of the footpath reducing future maintenance liability. The canal bed will be de-silted and the banks re-formed and tree roots removed. Clearance of the back soke dykes will alleviate floodrisk.
Why they need our serviceThis upper section of the canal is where the water supply to the canal is diverted. It deprives Bacton Wood Mill of its water which is needed to turn the restored waterwheel and the millstones. The mill staithe is dry and the lock has no water. The lock has however almost been repaired and now awaits a set of top gates. For the canal to function this top section must be re-watered. The public footpath beside this section will be easier to walk, less obstructed and visually more exciting.
Plan and expected resultsRestoration of a very visible section of the canal. Restoration of a pleasant waterside walk along the public footpath. Restoration of water to Bacton Wood Mill. Restoration of a long navigable section of water for pleasure. A place to observe nature. Flood alleviation.
