I am hoping to raise money for SLOW -'Surviving the Loss of your World' by taking part in the London Triathlon on Sunday 1st June. This involves a mile swim in the Serpentine, followed by a 40k bike ride & then a 10k run in under three and a half hours.
In 2011, good friends of ours Jason and Clara lost their 2 year old daughter Maude. I can’t begin to imagine what hell they have been through and continue to go through but SLOW is there for them and provides on going support to help them. But it needs money to keep going.
Over the next 10 days I will be getting a bit Anneka Rice and badgering anyone I know to badger anyone they know to give money. In return I will don a lycra mankini & try not to humiliate myself on the final straight. If you are reading this then please please PLEASE click the donate now button and give generously.
SLOW is a support group for bereaved parents & siblings run by bereaved parents.
SLOW supports bereaved parents through daily life with the aim of preventing longer term mental health/social issues. The SLOW group meets weekly and is open to all who have suffered the devastating loss of a child. The group aims to break down the social isolation experienced by parents, create new bonds and connections. SLOW also works with bereaved children so they can meet each other to build resilience and confidence by providing a safe space to explore feelings.
Participants report that the weekly group is a lifeline, and supports them through the week. It provides a distinct contrast to one-to-one counselling because of the support from people at different places in the process of living without their child. Through creative expression and team building games, the children that attend the Siblings Art Workshops are able to assert their own unique place in their families despite the challenges they have faced after the death of their sibling.
For Jason, Clara, Bessie, Gilbert and Maude.
