I am very lucky to have two 10-year old brothers. They both have cerebral palsy, a condition which affects each person differently but can affect physical movement and mental development. Both of my brothers use frames and wheelchairs to get about, but are able to stay in a mainstream school with help and are just as naughty as other 10-year-olds! One of my brothers, Alister, started going to wheelchair basketball to develop better motor skills (catching etc.) but it has become so much more than that. Since going to basketball he has become a more confident person, as well as being able to enjoy hanging out with other people like him, and having the opportunity to stay fit and active like regular children. His team are run by one woman who does absolutely everything on limited funds and it's all done voluntarily. The team don't need much but do need balls, wheelchairs, venues to practice in etc. At a recent tournament they were one of the only teams that didn't have a team uniform (the money only stretches so far) so i've set myself the challenge of raising the £200 needed to kit both the junior and senior teams out in a hoody each. There will be fundraising events to follow, but if you'd like to do something which will really make a difference then please donate. I know it will be put to good use :)
