This unique project was opened in 1992 and provides accommodation for nine Asian men and women with enduring mental health problems, providing support which is culturally and linguistically sensitive to residents' needs. The project was reconfigured to sustain only 50% BME referrals in 2006. Service users may have issues around: dual diagnosis/anger management/mental health/drug and/or alcohol problems.
Why they need our serviceWe provide a safe and supportive environment where tenants can develop emotional and practical skills to manage their lives and use support networks in the community. To celebrate the longstanding success of this project we will hold a sponsored walk in Southall Park on Monday 12th November. Raising £300 from the walk will provide service user activities/refreshments, £400 = training sessions for service users, £500 = outings for service users (all for one year) and £600 = broadband charges.
Plan and expected resultsVilliers Road supports people long-term, with many service users staying for 2 years or longer. In the last year it supported 11 people. A Supported Housing Worker covers the project seven days a week. The service provides support to enable tenants to sustain tenancies and develop and improve their quality of life. An out of hours on call emergency service is also provided. Staff are recruited with various language skills to support service users to enable them towards independent living.
