This grant enables FLACK to increase the drop-in times until April and host a bi-monthly film evening. The grant will be used to cover support worker time from 2pm-7pm instead of 2pm-5pm on Mon-Wed and from 11am-5pm instead of 11am-3:30pm on Sat-Sun; to cover the extra crafts materials and refreshments during the prolonged opening times; the Filmbank PVL license as well as basic refreshment provision, support worker time and late evening travel for 5 film evenings; cost of 2 volunteers.
Why they need our serviceThere is lack of homeless drop-in centres provision between 3:30-7pm in the week time and no drop-in centres open at the weekend; Jimmy's Nightshelter is closed between 9am-7pm and Wintercomfort closes at 3:30pm. We have recorded an increased attendance of members weekly since late November due to colder weather. Our existing members have requested the film evening as an alternative to spending time outside or alone in hostel rooms.
Plan and expected results1) increased drop-in times leading to reduced alcohol/substance misuse and developing new areas of interest for members such as learning a new craft or IT skills: - improved physical and mental health - reduced anti social behaviour - improved engagement with FLACK activities The film evening is an alternative for homeless people to spending time outside in the cold or alone in hostel rooms; leading to increased socialising skills.
