About

On April 10th to celebrate my 80th birthday I will do a zip-wire descent on the longest wire in Europe and fastest in the World. This will be at the Zipworld facility at Bethesda, South Wales. It involves soaring five hundred feet in the air at speeds up to 100mph over a distance of a mile. The descent is made face-forward, lying down in a sling. I did wing-walking for my 70th birthday, and I’ve flown in a micro-light so this seems another good challenge. But I am hoping that friends and well-wishers will sponsor me on this adventure to raise funds for the Acorn Group. Acorn provides support meetings and social outings for cancer patients and their carers in the local area, and they do a wonderful job to reduce loneliness and isolation. Post Script My son Karn took me to Wales He was a bit concerned for me as I hadn't been too well but I just had to go. I got dressed up in all the red gear for the descent and was told I was the oldest woman to have had a go at the zipwire. You first had to do the training run which was about half of everything - from 250ft about half the distance. I did this fine but it did shake me up. We then drove higher up the mountain which was also very bumpy. By the time we got to the top I did not feel at all well and in the circumstances it was agreed I should not do the full descent. Karn did the descent on my behalf so I hope that everyone will feel my/his sponsorship of Acorn is still very worthwhile.
