On the 25th June I will be taking part in the Wilberforce Challenge, walking one of 5 designated routes along the Wilberforce Way. The trail goes from Hull (where William Wilberforce was born ), goes through Pocklington (where he went to school) to York (where he was declared MP for the county of Yorkshire). The walks visit some stunning Wolds landscape as well as covering locations of special importance in the struggle for human freedom and dignity. The Wilberforce Way is a 60.5 mile linear trail devised to mark the bicentenary of the 1807 Act of Parliament abolishing British involvement in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. William Wilberforce was instrumental in ensuring blind and partially sighted people had opportunities in education and support to ensure they had a fulfilled life in York. Wilberforce Trust is Yorks oldest charity and is proud to provide housing and accommodation, support packages, rehabilitation and mobility training. The Living and Learning Zone gives access to courses in many different subjects. The Low Vision Clinics provide people with diagnostic testing and a pathway of understanding a persons needs from equipment to emotional support or access to work opportunities. The Charity has continued to grow and support many 100s of people across York and North Yorkshire. Please help me to raise funds to ensure the expansion of services and reach to many more people with sight loss across York and North Yorkshire. Thank you Philippa Crowther CEO
