Winchester to Southampton Charity Walk

Hi All, The Wealth Risk team will be completing a Winchester to Southampton charity walk to raise money for mASCot and Brighton Youth Centre. mASCot and Brighton Youth Centre have a working partnership together to provide the only Autism Specific Youth Project in Brighton and Hove. Teen+ Club is an innovative initiative run by parent carers and young people themselves, supported by BYC youth worker team and ASC specialist professionals. The club is for secondary school age young people up to 25 years. Launched in Sept 2017 at Brighton Youth Centre, it now runs weekly as a 2 hour session during term times. The Club was started by 2 parents of young people with ASC - in an attempt to address the extreme social exclusion that so many young ASC people of that age group face. Most of our club members attend mainstream school. Many have no friends at school or peer support system at all. With extreme anxiety and isolation caused by their school placement situation, we have a significant number on part time school timetables or are out of school entirely. The knock on effect on their mental health can be catastrophic. Teen+ Club has become a lifeline for most of its members. There is a clear ethos of support and acceptance that the young people are keen to uphold. For many, it is the only place that they feel they can be with other people of a similar age and really ‘be themselves’. As a result they are making social connections with each other, and we have the beginnings of - with the support of parents and staff - a network of support and a sense of community belonging that is not only of huge benefit to their mental well being right now, but has the potential to be there for them as they go into adulthood.
