Will J does the London Triathlon 2018

Almost a decade after my last triathlon, I'm attempting to go double the distance and do as the Olympians do! This may prove to be unwise, but it's all in the name of a fantastic charity, Prospex, that has been working with disadvantaged children in the borough in which I live and work since 2001. I'm incredibly fortunate to have the backing of the Macquarie Foundation, who will be matching whatever amount is raised, so whatever you are able to donate is worth DOUBLE. The race will comprise a 1500m open water swim (in the Victoria Docks), 40km cycle and 10km run. A little more information about the charity and the cause: "Islington, London, has the 2nd highest child poverty rate in London. It is the 8th most deprived borough in England; the 4th most deprived in London. Prospex works with young people who are socially disadvantaged, through no fault of their own.Most of them are excluded (formally or voluntarily) from education. Most are heading for unemployment and are involved in youth crime, alcohol and drug abuse. Most suffer from low self esteem and confidence, and lack long term, stable, one to one relationships. Almost half of the children in Islington live in poverty. Prospex works to build relationships with young people through three initiatives: ‘Prospex Street Team’ – outreach work to connect with and build meaningful relationships with young people. ‘Prospex Youth Hubs’ – set up in community centres and providing personal development and positive activities. ‘Prospex One-2-One’- individual tailor-made support between an individual young person and a Prospex youth worker. Ultimately Prospex wants to support young people in achieving their full potential in life and striving to reach their goals and dreams – a basic right that should be available to every young person." http://www.prospex.org.uk/
