In recent years, I have been applying my experience to projects that are community focused, fun and, mostly, truly rewarding.
One of these is BYEP – A social enterprise supporting young people from Bristol's diverse inner city communities; inspiring and empowering them to advance in employability and enterprise skills; through projects, events, workshops and partnership programmes.
Supporting and celebrating young people empowers them to feel part of their community and gain self-belief to pursue and achieve their potential.
In light of this, I am currently fundraising for a youth-led awards event - EMPOWERED. To celebrate the achievements of several young people from Bristol's disadvantaged inner city communities.
EMPOWERED will see local residents nominate and celebrate talented young people in the following categories: Education, Choices, Community, Sports, Enterprise, Arts (Performing, Literal and Visual), IT and Leadership.
EMPOWERED will also give:
• Young People – the opportunity to volunteer on the project, develop workplace skills, gain work experience and earn a qualification through the process.
• Local Residents/Businesses – the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to their community and the next generation.
The event will consist of exciting performances, awards, music, food, stalls and much more. We want to make the event FREE for young people, so we'll really appreciate your support towards the costs.
Donations of any amount will be gratefully received. All donors will be entered into raffles to win one of several generously donated prizes, including a family ticket to the Roman baths; a swim & meal at Lido Bristol; family ticket to Bristol Aquarium and free 5 day pass to Spirit Health Club.
