I am raising money for Your Space which provides a social club for young people with Autism.
My eldest son Oliver has autism and as he has grown like any mum I wanted to have a club or hobby that he enjoyed. However, I found this really difficult as due to cuts there is not much out there for young people as a whole never mind those with additional needs. It was hard to find somewhere that could provide the support he needs as he is a danger to himself and struggles with the world.
I came upon Your Space around two years ago and I believe it is one of the best things that has ever happened to Oliver. He now attends a club on a Saturday afternoon term time, in which he is fully supported in a safe environment. Oliver does not have friends and is very particular with whom he trusts and interacts with. But he has developed an amazing bond with Paul who supports him and the smile on his face when he opens the door every week is priceless.
Your space is an amazing nonprofit charity, that provides activity sessions and social clubs to children and young adults with autism. Your space is working hard to secure funding for future sessions but as you can imagine this is a tough job in its self.
I feel that I need to give something back and have been lucky enough to grab a few comrades on the way to run 5k and raise funds. If you could spare £5 the price of a lunch or a couple of coffees and encourage those you are with to do the same we can make a difference to young children lives affected by autism.
