Good Companions aims to break the sense of isolation often felt by older people by providing fortnightly social dances as a way for them to enjoy meeting up and doing a gentle form of activity in a relaxed and welcoming environment. We also provide dance coaching to give confidence and encouragement to any attendees feeling a bit rusty with the dance steps.
Why the community needs usProviding regular functions for older people makes them feel a more valued part of the community and gives them a sense of inclusion. The very high attendance at the dances over the past three years demonstates that there is a great need for more social opportunities like this for older people to get together and enjoy themselves more often.
Our impact on the communityWe have high attendance with a large number of regular attendees. We have a comments book for participants to express their views and make suggestions that we use to help meet the needs of our regular attenders. Our attendees benefit from better health, meeting new friends and feeling a greater sense of inclusion in the community.
