Providing musical (choir) opportunities to all members of the community.
To liberate (self-defined) non-singers from the REAL fear of being PUBLICLY heard TRYING to sing. To enable confidence this needs to be delicately handled because of people's long held inhibitions on this SENSITIVE matter. To get over INDIVIDUAL difficulties, the practise will be to have choir (group) singing, supplemented by personal (solo !:1) sessions. Experience has dictated that to achieve COMMUNITY choir status, 30 group sessions (3 terms), and 60 individual lessons will be required.
Why the community needs usWe are a community choir who welcome both non-singers and people who are 'nervously at ease' with their singing, to take part in an inclusive environment where singing is enjoyed and new skills learned and developed. We provide private tuition before our main choir practise for those who are not yet comfortable with their singing, in order to build their self-confidence. We believe confidence is the key which helps our members make new friends in a relaxed and inspiring ambience.
Our impact on the communityOur choir meets on Friday evgs. at a low cost venue and we welcome all members of the community who are of low/no singing ability and experience. New members ALWAYS attend (which, perhaps speaks for itself!) and the activity is enjoyed over a very wide age spectrum. Our choir is based in Greens Norton, but members travel from all over South Northants to take part as they have heard from friends/family how welcome they will be,
Everyone who takes part in the choir helps with volunteering such as preparing the hall, making the refreshments and clearing up. Enquiries for m'ship continue, so numbers continue to rise are expected to rise.
