Our aim is to preserve recreation space and provide cultural and social activities for local people. Most of our members join HCYA to take part in one of the activities especially, although some take part in more. Each Section (e.g. Art) independently organizes its own activities and finances. There is a Management Committee which meets once a month and looks after the Community Hall building, HCYA finances, our website and annual magazine and other activities like the summer fete.

Why the community needs us

We believe HCYA is a very unique group as it is run totally by volunteers. We are proud to have achieved so much in such a little time, and we continue to seek new ways of encouraging a good family, social and community atmosphere in our small part of the universe. If one of our members suggests a new activity, we encourage it, support it, nurture it and watch over it until the new section is able to be self-supporting. We are non-sectarian and non-political.

Our impact on the community

After ten years of enthusiastic fundraising, Hallam Community Hall was opened 1974, built in the grounds of Hallam School, Hallam Grange Crescent on land leased from the LEA. Most current activities take place in the Community Hall (e.g. bridge, indoor bowls, 2 wine groups, an art group etc. Other activities take place offsite (e.g. walking and football.) There is a Management Committee with an elected Executive (Chair, Treasurer etc.) and representatives for each HCYA activity.
