Horsewyse works with children and adults with a range of learning, behavioural and physical difficulties, including ASDs; severe and multiple learning disabilities; epilepsy; and low confidence/self esteem - both through specialist organisations and with individuals. Activities are tailored to each individual. Typical benefits include increased interaction, improved communication skills and team building, reduced anxiety/anger, and taking responsibility for themselves and others.
Why the community needs us
We aim to increase the access to sport, exercise, fun and interaction for people with otherwise limited opportunities. We aim to help children with emotional, social and behavioural difficulties to build their confidence and ability to engage in home and school life.
Our impact on the community
Working with horses adds a sensory component that provides sometimes unexpected results. Families and carers report that people are often calmer and sleep better after coming to Horsewyse. Working with horses can also increase the desire to communicate and interact with the world around. There is a lot of laughter involved!
