Support: How to promote your Localgiving page

Let's spread the word

Creating an effective Localgiving charity profile is only part of the process to supercharging your fundraising with us. Yes, you have a great page, with a clear explanation about what you are fundraising for, some brilliant photos, links to your social media pages and more.

But it’s no good just perfecting your page, you must promote it to your community and beyond. You can’t be shy, if you are going to maximise your fundraising, you really need to push your page. We have over 13 years of experience in this area, so here are some tips to get started!

  • As soon as the page is published, message your entire network – friends, family, supporters, volunteers, recipients of support – tell them it’s live and ask for a small donation to help you get off to a flying start. You can use WhatsApp, email, social media – whatever you like.
  • Include a very prominent link on your website and if you have one, every issue of your newsletter. Make sure that everyone who engages with your communications, also has a clear route to donating to you. If you have a fixed location, like a hall, shop or place of worship, put some posters up telling your community that this is how we are receiving donations. Perhaps use a free QR code maker to make it even easier.
  • Publish the link regularly on your social media platforms and explain why donations are so crucial. We recommend multiple platforms to ensure you have the widest possible route into different communities.
  • Add some urgency! You want people to not just see the chance to donate but want them to do it right then. Not at some point in the future, when they might forget! So, give a timeline for when the donation is needed by, and make it soon.
  • Create momentum – keep up a buzz by telling people how you are doing and what the donations are helping support. Share great stories from the campaign on social media and your pages. If there are people fundraising for you – include training progress, photos from activities etc.

Extra tips

  • Create a hashtag to help build awareness for your fundraising and use it across all your social media platforms. Choose something that no one else is using (Search hashtags first before committing) that is a little different and will get your friends and families’ interest.
  • Reach out to local media – newspapers, radio, websites. Tell them what you are doing and why. Include some quotes. Make it as easy and interesting as possible for a journalist to turn into a story.
  • Be creative! It’s crucial you capture people’s attention, so get thinking of promotions that will help you stand out from the crowd!
  • We love to hear about your campaign so please send us your photos and fundraising stories to press@localgiving.org and tag our social media accounts on your posts, we might even write a feature about you and publish it on our website and in our newsletter!
