In-Deep is a grassroots registered charity working with isolated older people and disabled children and their families in Westminster and the surrounding areas, tackling loneliness and offering friendship. We run a range of activities to bring people together and provide support.

About In-Deep’s work with older people

Founded by Colin Chapman MBE, In-Deep’s services for older people began with a Breakfast Club in January 2002, and over the years has grown to include Community Dinners, offering people the chance to make friends and socialise; an Over 50s Choir which supports participants’ breathing, posture, self-expression, skill development, and improves quality of life; manicures and pedicures which prevent infection for those who struggle with maintaining their nails due to arthritis and osteoporosis; Lunch Delivery, providing people with a nutritious home-cooked meal; Befriending Scheme, providing 1:1 companionship and support to those in need; and an annual Christmas Hamper Scheme which offers a welcome reminder of community spirit during the wintertime. Maintaining these kinds of social interactions not only improves mood but has also been shown to be a protective factor against the development of dementia.

About In-Deep’s work with children with SEND and their families

In 2017, In-Deep’s work expanded even further to begin supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families with a music therapy service. Research shows that music therapy can support children’s emotional wellbeing, help them build their social interaction and communication skills, and promote the quality of parent‐child bonds. Raising a child with special needs can be a very isolating experience, so In-Deep’s Carers’ Group offers a valuable support network for parents to share experiences and know that they are not alone. The charity offers a range of other services such as Pilates classes for carers, a healthy activity which can be particularly beneficial for those tired from supporting their child physically, as well as parent and child relaxation sessions involving calm music and mindfulness, helping families settle down for the evening.
