The relief of poverty for individuals, families and communities affected by substance misuse. We offer accredited training, provide support groups for ex-service users who may be vulnerable or at risk of losing their jobs, some people can access our training courses though a skill swap, where they give some of their time to support our charitable aims. With the money we raise we provide free places to long term unemployed people or to parents on benefits from the local area.

Most of our trainees left school around the age of 13. Supporting an adult like this to become employable for the first time in their lives makes a massive impact on families and communities. It raises self esteem and changes the opinions and expectations of those around them. Simple things that most of us take for granted like paying a bill or buying a new pair of shoes and becoming someone who can provide for their family makes a difference to the lives of those in poverty in profound ways.

This is difficult work and takes a long time, many of our trainees have a low educational standard and a related low self esteem. A lot of the work we do is about helping people to understand themselves, so that they can stop counter-productive behaviour. Between 2009 and 2011, we trained 35 people recovering from drug and alcohol use. 29 of these are now in full time employment and a further 5 are still working toward their qualifications.
