Isabel Hospice gives high quality, free, specialist palliative care to people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses, and support to their families and carers. Our multi-disciplinary team cares for the physical needs of our patients and for their social, psychological and spiritual needs. We serve a population of 350,000 people in Broxbourne, East Herts and Welwyn Hatfield. One of our patients said, 'The care I have had has been marvellous. I would give the Hospice the world if I could.'
Why the community needs usMore and more of our support is being offered to patients in their own homes or at our three Day Services in Bishops' Stortford, Cheshunt and Welwyn Garden City. This reflects the wishes of our patients and their carers for local access to services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and lymphoedema therapy. Family support through illness and bereavement is also offered to patients at home, acknowledging the impact of illness and loss on the family and carers of our patients.
Our impact on the communityWe provide patients with information and support them in making informed choices regarding their end of life care. We also involve patients, carers and those who have been bereaved in our Service Users Groups which are an opportunity for them to tell us what they want from our services and how we can improve the care that we provide. We aim to offer services that meet the needs of our patients and their families, including children, at this critical time in their lives.
