Julia's House is Dorset's only Chilren's Hospice dedicated to providing care and support to around 100 local children and their families. As well as hospice based care, we also provide home based care and a range of specialist therapies (such as music, art and play therapy). Each one of the children we care for is an individual with their own personality, likes and dislikes. We never define a child by their disability and try and help unlock the potential that lies within each child.
Why the community needs usIn homes across Dorset, mums and dads are having to provide around the clock medical care for children who will never recover from their illnesses. These parents have found themselves locked into a life that they never expected and face daily pressures that most of us would struggle to even imagine. Julia's House aims to maximise and enrich the quality of life for seriously ill children and provides a range of services for the whole family. All our services are offered completely free of charge.
Our impact on the communityRespite care, whether at the hospice or in a child's own home, can really help to ease the strain that a family caring for a seriously ill child can experience. This vital time off enables parents to rest, run errands or spend quality time with their other children and have a much needed break from their caring responsibilities. Even a few short hours of respite care per week can make a huge difference to a family.
