The South Tyneside Churches' KEY Project will assist young people experiencing hardship to live independent and successful lives. The Project will actively promote and support collaborative working between voluntary and private sector organisations and statutory bodies for the benefit of young people in South Tyneside.
Why the community needs usThere is a local need to help vulnerable young people feel included and achieve their potential for independent living. KEY offers these young people floating support in their tenancies, life skills and self-esteem training, emergency support packs of food and other essentials and support to enter training and education. KEY also works with partner organisations to offer supported accommodation in training houses for young people.
Our impact on the communityKEY have 27 young people at any one time benefiting from intensive floating support; 'Supporting People' has stated more young people need this kind of intensive support. Of the 'priority needs acceptances' recorded by South Tyneside's Homelessness Team in 2007, 35% were aged between 16 and 24 years. Over the past 17 years the organisation has assisted approximately 650 young people.
