Eligibility Policy

We are deeply proud to support organisations of all shapes and sizes in delivering life changing work across the country. We try very hard to support a great breadth of charitable organisations and welcome registered charities, community interest companies, and many other types of organisations. 

We’ve outlined our eligibility criteria below and are constantly working hard to open Localgiving to more and more organisations. 

Upon validation of any charity or community group who registers with Localgiving, we require that the organisation meets the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be wishing to raise voluntary income through their Localgiving.com webpage, and not use their page for trading purposes.
  • Be for public benefit
  • Have completely charitable objectives as outlined in The Charities Act 
  • Has a UK registered office

 

Registered charity:

  • Be registered with the Charity Commission of England, Scotland or Northern Ireland
  • Undertake charitable activities that are charitable under the laws of the UK
  • Has charitable aims that are not solely for the advancement of party politics
  • Has a UK bank account
  • Have at least 3 trustees, 2 of which are unrelated
  • Has up to date filings with the Charity Commission

 

Registered company:

  • Is registered with Companies House 
  • Undertake charitable activities that are charitable under the laws of the UK
  • Has charitable aims that are not solely for the advancement of party politics
  • Has a UK bank account with at least two signatories
  • Have at least 3 directors, 2 of which are unrelated
  • Undertakes charitable activities in the UK
  • Is a company limited by guarantee
  • Has Articles of Association that state explicitly non-profit status & that funds will be transferred to another asset-locked body in the event of dissolution as well as outlining their objectives, powers, memberships, trustees
  • Has up to date filings with Companies House

 

CASCs:

  • Be registered with HMRC
  • Undertake charitable activities that are charitable under the laws of the UK
  • Has charitable aims that are not solely for the advancement of party politics
  • Has a UK bank account with at least two signatories
  • Have at least 3 trustees, 2 of which are unrelated
  • Have a constitution that confirms operation in the UK
  • Has a constitution that state explicitly non-profit status & that funds will be transferred to another asset-locked body in the event of dissolution as well as outlining their objectives, powers, memberships, trustees

 

Unregistered organisation:

  • Undertake charitable activities that are charitable under the laws of the UK
  • Has charitable aims that are not solely for the advancement of party politics
  • Has a UK bank account with at least two signatories
  • Have at least 3 trustees / directors, 2 of which are unrelated
  • Has at least three, with two non-related, directors / trustees
  • Has accounts showing income & expenditure for the previous financial year or, if the organisation has been running for fewer than one year, a 12-month financial forecast.
  • Has a governing document that states explicitly non-profit status & that funds will be transferred to another asset-locked body in the event of dissolution as well as outlining their objectives, powers, memberships, trustees

 

While we do our best to support as broad a range of organisations as possible, we are only able to offer our services because we take due diligence very seriously. We reserve the right to refuse membership or withhold applications for Gift Aid for any organisation that we deem to convey personal or individual benefit. 

 

Ineligible groups:

  • Mutuals or Community Benefit Societies where members are shareholders
  • PLCs
  • Companies that are not limited by guarantee
