Established in January 2000, the London Bus Theatre Company provides drama workshops, resource packs, training days and videos on drugs awareness, alcohol, antisocial behaviour and bullying for children and young people of all ages and backgrounds, particularly the most disadvantaged. The overall aim is to improve the quality of life by reducing crime and social exclusion, ensuring young people have a keener appreciation of personal health and safety.
Why the community needs usOur projects address local need by reducing alcohol and drug abuse and antisocial behaviour through a range of drama projects targeting disaffected local young people and those considered 'at risk'. This means communities are healthier, cleaner and safer. Drama increase confidence, literacy skills and self esteem and raises aspirations. This results in our beneficiaries gaining employment.
Our impact on the communityWe currently workshop 8,000 primary school aged children and 8,000 secondary school aged children each year. Projects are alcohol and anti-smoking workshops, anti-social behaviour plays and our anti-bullying production 'Nutter'. In the last two years we have employed over three hundred residents from Craylands, Fryerns East and Queens Park on a filming project Bas Vegas. Beneficiaries have been employed as actors, extras and crew assistance.
