Matchpatch have been established as a non-charitable organisation to fund, plan, develop and operate the Community Garden Plots and Diamond Jubilee Orchard. Our Logo including the name 'Matchpatch' is protected by copyright. The Community Garden Plots are operational with 24 plots for the residents of the Parish to grow their own vegetables, fruits and flowers. The Diamond Jubilee Orchard comprises a mixed orchard of 27 trees with particular emphasis on supporting 'Old Dorset Varieties'.
Why the community needs usThe Village of Milton Abbas is located in a steep chalk/flint ravine where the majority of the residential gardens are unsuitable for growing produce. As a consequence the Matchpatch Community Gardens project located on a flat fertile field, facilitates residents to 'grow their own', thus giving many benefits to both the community and the environment. The orchard designed to mark our Queen's Diamond Jubilee will be a great source of fruit to our community for several generations to come.
Our impact on the communityThe Community Garden Plots project by its nature, is a very strong community based project involving the community in working together and supporting each other in this great outdoor activity. Already people who did not know each other, are now on first name terms, sharing a common experience and striving towards the common goal, of providing fresh vegetables on the table. Our members were granted access on 01 April 2012 and all plots are occupied. The project is an outstanding success.
