Moving Together in Somerset (MTiS) enables young people and young adults, aged 13-25 yrs, who have varying physical impairments and social and learning difficulties, to access social and leisure activities within their local community; this is a part of life that other young people might take for granted. Paid qualified staff facilitate these vulnerable young people to go out with their peers and enjoy a near normal social experience, leaving their usual carers and/or parents at home.

Why the community needs us

It is human nature to fear what is different, people with disabilities are different and, I believe, excluded from the mainstream of society out of this fear. Being thus excluded exacerbates these differences, because, those who are different never get to learn HOW to be within society, because they are never let in. MTiS tries to bridge this gap by supporting these vulnerable people, showing people, on both sides, that difference doesn't have to be feared and helping them share their Community.

Our impact on the community

By belonging to MTiS these vulnerable and inexperienced young people grow in confidence and become more socially adept. They develop an ability to negotiate in social and business situations, such as purchasing tickets, ordering and paying for a meal, going shopping and learn to make informed decisions and in doing so they become more at one within and actually become a contributory part of their local community, from which they once may have been excluded.
