The MS Society exists to work towards the eradication of the disease of Multiple Sclerosis, but in the meantime to support all those affected, and to enable them to live as full a life as possible. The South Devon branch, like all other branches, is affiliated to the MS Society nationally, and has to adhere to specific standards. These include providing information and a designated helpline, producing a regular newsletter and offering services relevant to all those affected by the disease.

Why the community needs us

MS is a disease affecting people of any age from teenager upward. Symptoms can include lack of balance, lack of co-ordination,pain,cognitive and memory problems, poor mobility, problems with sensations in every part of the body and extreme fatigue. Our society offers support to all those affected by the disease, including family and carers. We provide information on symptom management,a phone helpline, grants to assist with the specific costs of disability, day care, exercise classes and advocacy

Our impact on the community

People with MS feel less isolated and more able to cope with the way it is affecting them. Families with children are linked with one another;groups at exercise classes encourage one another to keep as fit as possible;our advocacy worker can assist with benefit applications, housing and other service requirements, our day care service gives a break to carers and the person with MS, our grants system helps with the costs of home adaptations and mobility aids and our campaigning improves services.
