Calshot Tower Watch Station is a new part of a Nationwide network of stations of the National Coastwatch Institution. It is an organisation of purely volunteers whom man locations around the coast keeping watch for safety of all users of coastal waters and pathways. In our case we watch over about a million sailors, windsurfers, fishermen and holidaymakers using the Solent. Our motto is 'Eyes along the Coast' We work in support of other lifesaving institutions, i.e. RNLI, Coastguard, Police

Why the community needs us

Southampton Water and the Solent are one of the busiest waterways in the UK with a vast amount of commercial and leisure activites carried throughout the year. Our watch tower is 100 feet high and has a 360deg aspect. Incidents involving local small craft, wind surfers and kite surfers as well as beach and dinghy fishermen are regularly resolved by our teams of local watchkeepers in contact with the Coastguard and our local RNLI Station.

Our impact on the community

From an initial startup of this Station 2 years ago we have recruited and trained over 90 watchkeepers mostly from the local community. The Station carries out three 4 hour watches per day with a team of 3 qualified watchkeepers and is in constant contact with the local rescue authorities having recently achieving the coveted national award DECLARED FACILITY STATUS
