To support, advise and encourage disabled people throughout Norfolk to help them lead full and interesting lives. We offer practical support, impartial advice, social contact and befriending to all in Norfolk who have a physical disability, and their families. Local volunteer groups organise social events and outing to enhance the lives of their members. Our Central Office places great importance on the running of our Holiday Grant Scheme which enables us to help finance short holidays.
Why the community needs usNot only do we operate a very busy telephone help line, but our office is becoming a drop in advice centre for local residents. We handle numerous calls from those seeking help in locating specific pieces of equipment, where to get benefit advice, how to get alterations made to homes to make them more accessible, etc. We never know what our next enquiry will be, but we will do everything possible to find an answer to any problem raised. We also supply RADAR keys for disabled toilets.
Our impact on the communityThe gratitude expressed by people for whom we have spent hours solving problems is heart warming. Many elderly or confused people cannot cope with being switched from one telephone number to another. We take that stress from them and just give them the information they are seeking. This demand for help meant we had to increase our office opening hours. For those to whom we give Holiday Grants, it is often the first break away from home they have had in years. The benefit to them is obvious.
