The North Wales Mountain Rescue Association provides rescue services across the whole of North Wales. Working in partnership with the North Wales Police (the main organisation calling us out), the Welsh Ambulance Service, North Wales Fire and Rescue service and the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter to provide a volunteer led 24/7 rescue service. Our volunteers provide a range of rescue activities including searching for people in mountainous and inhospitable terrain, rescue from swift and flood waters and searching for vulnerable people missing from home (oh and the occasional animal rescue). The association brings together a number of different independent teams from across the region. All of its members are unpaid volunteers, willing to turn out in all weathers at any time of day to help those in need.
We are currently developing a digital communications network for all our volunteers which will enable:· Continue to communicate and work alongside statutory bodies e.g., North Wales Police, Fire and Ambulance· To provide a modern, digital communications network throughout the whole of North Wales, South Wales and England · to act in particular as an intermediary between the local Search and Rescue Teams affiliated here to Mountain Rescue England and Wales and such other regional, national, international or government bodies as may be appropriate.
The equipment in total will cost in the region of £300,000 of which we have received £50,000 in grants and are therefore looking for fundraisers to help us achieve our goal.
If you are running a marathon, organising a challenge or simply having a coffee morning, please consider our cause to help both the residents and visitors to North Wales keep safe in the mountains.
