The Northallerton and the Dales Mencap Society is the voice of learning disability in Hambleton and Richmondshire districts of North Yorkshire. The Society was established in 1964 and moved to its present premises, The Mencap Centre, in Northallerton, in 1979.
Why the community needs usMencap Services at The Centre include representation, information, advice, support and signposting for people with a learning disability. Also, a wide range of organisations and clubs as well as individuals and groups from the wider community use the Centre; St John Ambulance, a local Woodwind Ensemble, Romanby Quilters and the New Life Baptist Church are a few examples.
Our impact on the communityThe Society supports over 500 adults and children with learning disabilities, and their families and carers, towards achieving fulfilled lives and valued citizenship within their local communities. The use of the Centre by a wide range of groups and individuals provides vital income that enables the Society to fulfil these aims and objectives.
