The Devizes & District Association for the Disabled was formed in 1981 with the aim of improving facilities, in Devizes, for disabled people. In 1984 The Nursteed Centre was opened providing a meeting hall, kitchen and toilets specifically designed for the disabled. It is now home to 16 disabled groups with approximately 250 people attending the Centre on a regular basis. The D&DAD seeks financial support to assist with running costs and allow the facilities to be available at reasonable cost
Why the community needs usThe Nursteed Centre is the only specially adapted meeting venue for disabled groups in the area. It offers good parking, a large meeting hall together with an adjacent smaller room, kitchen complete with dishwasher and accessible toilets.
Our impact on the communityThe Centre is run by a management committee which includes representatives from the user groups which helps to ensure we continue to meet the needs of disabled people. Apart from the part time Centre Organiser all the management committee are unpaid volunteers. In 2012 sixteen disabled groups used the Centre and approximately 250 people attended on a regular basis
