Oxford now has one of the top orchestras in the UK. Oxford Philomusica was founded in 1998 and enjoys close links with Oxford University as its first Orchestra in Residence. Apart from a comprehensive season of concerts in Oxford we are rapidly developing a touring programme both in this country and overseas. Our reputation is based on uncompromising artistic standards.
Why the community needs usWe run an extensive community programme in the Oxfordshire area, working with schools in deprived areas and at the Oxford Hospitals with specialists projects at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre. Our far-reaching work in the community won us the coveted 2007 Oxfordshire Business of the Year Award for Community and Charity work. Our schools and community work is directed principally at areas of social and economic underprivileged, in many cases for members of the community with emotional problems.
Our impact on the communityOur Young Talent, and Apprentice schemes, benefit hundreds of school and university students each year. Our Piano Festival and Summer Academy has become a major annual event attracting young pianists on the verge of international careers. In partnership with Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council, we have launched a series of Family Concerts in Oxford's Town Hall for the benefit of the wider community.
