Leamington Spa | Arts, Culture & Heritage
In 2012 we celebrated the Diamond Jubilee with the restoration of the eight Linden Arches erected in 1875. The next major step will be to restore the rare MacFarlane bandstand erected in 1889. It will have state of the art musical equipment stored in the undercroft. Other works will include alleviating the water logging of the grass areas, opening up the view of the river by clearing the riverbank, relaying the drains and paths.
Why the community needs usThese ambitious works will enhance the popularity and use of the gardens for community events and activities. These will include bands playing music for the diverse tastes of the local community as well as classical brass band performances. There will be themed guided walks on the history of the gardens, the river bank ecology as well as walks aimed at those with dementia and mental health problems. We will encourage learning about heritage of the gardens for local primary schools.
Our impact on the communityThe physical works, starting with the restoration of the Linden Arches, will ensure the gardens remain at the heart of Leamington activities and events for another two centuries. The gardens will yet again be the thriving village green of the town.
