Read Easy matches adults who want to learn to read with volunteers who can teach them. This 1-1 scheme is confidential and free to the learner. All volunteers are fully trained and supported.
Why the community needs usAbout one adult in six in the UK today struggles with reading. There are many reasons why some people find it difficult to learn to read when they are children, but the really good news is that it's never too late to learn! By teaching adults to read we contribute to: * Improved quality of life for individuals and families * Increased volunteering * People accessing training and employment opportunities that were previously closed to them
Our impact on the communityFor those who learn to read they will: * More independent - able to deal with their own day to day affairs and finance on their own * Be able to go onto further training or volunteering * Be able to access employment that previously would have been closed to them There are lots of things that people will be able to do for themselves once they can read: * Send a text * Read a book for pleasure or learning * Read a recipe book * Read a menu when they go out for a meal
