Chester-le-Street | Community Support & Development
RSVP recognises that older people have built up a life time of skills and experience which, are much needed by society. We are a volunteer led and managed group, and run 9 projects in the North East to benefit local communities with the skill and knowledge of older volunteers. However, whilst we promote volunteering for older people, if younger people are interested in supporting our projects we never turn anyone away. Thank you to all our doners!
Why the community needs usBy far in a way our biggest project is our G.P Driving scheme where volunteer drivers take elderly housebound people to their doctors appointment's. Some of these elderly people never get out. So to be supported in getting to their medical appointment's means that they seek intervention earlier. Our volunteer drivers supported 4,979 elderly people to appointments making 6,272 drives last year. Our volunteers also benefit in there well being by supporting their community.
Our impact on the community1,040 older people volunteer within their community. Our volunteer drivers supported 4,979 elderly people to appointments making 6,272 drives last year. Our knitters sent a lorry load of knitted clothes and toys with the Durham prison officers, on there trip across Europe to a Lithuanian orphanage. Our knitters also sent a car load of knitted toys and hats to the operation Christmas child shoe box appeal. Our Telephone be-frienders combat loneliness by making phone calls to each other.
