Samaritans vision is that fewer people die by suicide. They are available 24 hours a day to provide emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. They listen to alleviate distress, ensure confidentiality, allow people to make their own decisions and are non-judgemental. In 2008 the branch handled 14,000 contact by phone, email or face to face. In addition we gave talks in schools and to community groups.
Why the community needs usSamaritans services are available to everyone 24 hours a day, every day without fail. We are there to listen when you are in despair or distress. Call us on 08457 90 90 90, email jo@samaritans.org and share your concerns in a safe, confidential, non-judgemental and supportive environment.
Our impact on the communityWe aim to provide emotional support for people who are experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those that may lead to suicide. On average our branch now handles approximately 26,000 contacts each year, by phone, e-mail, text or face-to-face. Our key priorities for the future are to recruit, train and support new volunteers, to reach out into local communities, to publicise the services that we offer and ensure our service is sustainably resourced.
